For as long as I have lived it has always been my dearest ambition to travel the world. I was able to go to Europe while Sean was on his mission with the best partner in crime, Kellan, but it just wasn't enough. After not as much poking and prodding as I thought, Sean decided he wanted to go as well. We talked about it for the longest time but we finally made it happen August of 2009. It wasn't without sacrifice though; Sean skipped out on his first week of classes. It was the only way we decided we could do it since he couldn't take of work for APX. So, August 23 we ventured off across the Pond to a little town known as London!
The flight was not quite as awesome as we thought it would be...the seats were small and there were no individual movie screens. It was all worth it when we stepped off the plane and into the Gatwick airport. Beautiful London, we were there! That's when all the trouble started. We walked back and forth looking for our taxi service that was supposed to be waiting for us, but after an hour we began to get antsy. We found out that Priceline had not even sent our information to the taxi service so we rode the train to a stop nearest our hotel. The task didn't prove to be very easy considering we had mondo amounts of luggage. We paid a taxi 5pounds to literally drive us around the corner that could have easily been walked. :) We super enjoyed the English hospitality. But, there was light at the end of the tunnel because our hotel, Holiday Inn Express, was amazing (Beside the fact that we got landed with two twin beds.) After a much needed nap and a session of unpacking we headed off to the Natural History Museum. Delayed only by the closed tube station and the slow paced shuffle we were forced to walk in (a skirt on a blustery day in London town is not the best choice of clothing) we finally got there! The architecture of this building will always be more fascinating to me than what is actually inside but both are above anything I've ever seen.
The next day we got up bright and early...4:00 and met up with the good ol' Red Bus Tour. We had to wait for about an hour but waiting never suggests problems when your standing in the center of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Sean really believes that he's a secret agent or super hero...

This was a cute little shop we saw while on our walk

Behind Westminster

Westminster again

Big Ben!

This was inside Westminster. We had to be quite sneaky to get this picture this ended up being one of our favorite pictures of the trip.

This is Harrods, which is one of the largest stores ever! We didn't go in cause I got lost last time and beside that we couldn't afford even their 60 pound socks.

Behind Shakespeare's Globe. I just finished a Shakespeare class so going here was especially amazing.

Victoria and Albert Museum...Sean as David
This is my favorite museum in the world! We spent a good 5 hours in here.

A costume from the Producers...my favorite movie...Springtime for Hitler!!

The Round Pond...we bought dinner from Mark's and Spencers, the best grocery store, and shivered half to death as we sat on the poopy grass and listened to the church bells.

Ahhh Paris. We took the Eurostar straight into Paris, hopped on the Metro, and first visited the Sacre Coeur. Before we got to the steps some African men approached us and asked/ demanded to make a bracelet on our fingers and then we could decide to buy it or not. I thought they were so friendly but Sean and his American salesmanness was not having it at all. They kept telling him, "Hakunah Matata! Just be nice, do you know what that means?" I've definitely seen the Lion King 5 or a million times so I told them and they laughed, patted me on the shoulder and said, "We like you, but this guy? No way. He's not friendly at all. You should tell him to lighten up. We don't like him at all". And after we told and showed them we didn't have money to pay for the bracelets the niceties ended completely and I thought they were going to kill my husband. I guess they all have telepathy powers because every other African selling bracelets followed us around with the look of death on their face. But the church sure was pretty!

There was a great view from atop the 1 million steps leading up to the cathedral. It was the most breathtaking view I've ever seen and the picture doesn't do justice.

One of my have-to-go-tos was Montmarte, which I sadly missed last time. We left the Sacre Coeur in search of it only to go right back to it. Then we waited in this huge line to get on a very Star wars looking elevator that ended up taking us exactly back to the Sacre Coeur. Tourists. It was worth the hassel! Painters lined the streets and street musicians totaled the experiance. I was dying to buy a painting but a small 8x8 averaged $200. Sean had his first crepe and we scidadled out of there and on to the Tour d'eiffel.

There are plenty of funny stories attatched to this picture. First, let me tell you that Sean and my mindsets are quite opposite when walking in a foreign country. I like to blend in, not talking very much so people don't know I'm a tourist and don't treat me like one. I like to pretend that I live there...it seems to soak in better that way. Sean, on the other and most opposite hand, is all-American and forgets quite easily that most Parisians hate the US. :) Bless his dear heart. We're sitting on the metro, enjoying the scenery playing on around us, when all of a sudden Sean gasps as loud as anyone can gasp, points and yells, "Look!" Oh, that cute husband of mine had spotted the Eiffel Tower and in so doing blown our cover and let the whole train know that we were two of those crazy Americans. I have never had so many French glares at one time.
While walking up to the Eiffel Tower we ran into some Middle Eastern scam artists who tried to beg money out of us. The next one we ran into Sean says, "Uh, no habla espagnol". We had a giggle fit and had to leave the poor grumpy lady. Then, we ran into a man who said he would do our characateur for very cheap. I talked Sean into it and we sat and talked about his 11 children while he promised to make me look "so sexy". $60 later we looked at the most hideous picture we had ever seen. Well, I was gorgeous but it looked nothing like me...especially the over volumptious chest that poured out of my shirt...not in this lifetime. And Sean (the good-looking one of us two) had a goober nose and a dumb expression on his face. We had a very expensive laugh over that one.

Notre Dame

Just one of the HUGE stained glass windows inside. One of my favorite things about the Notre Dame is that when you go inside it's dark and as quite as can be.

Outside the Louvre

Mona Lisa! We think it was a fake because they let everyone take pictures. The last time I was there they made everyone put their cameras away before they got close.

This was one of my favorite paintings.

Favorite! Winged Victory

Venus de Milo

My hot hubby

Windsor Castle. This place was ridiculous. Everything was covered in gold and decorated with the most expensive rare pieces and nobody even lives there. The Queen has her own quarters in a whole seperate wing. God save the Queen and all but I sure as heck don't understand it.

Stonehenge

Oxford
I was looking forward to this the most but it ended up being the biggest disappointment. On the tour description it said we would visit scenes from Harry Potter. We didn't.

Our home station for the week

This was by far the best trip we had ever been on. It was the most amazing cultural experience and I loved sharing my love for everything with Sean. He quickly fell in love with the museums and surprised me by wanting to go to the Tate Britain over shopping on Oxford Street. We also got to see Les Miserables, which is so much better than Gammage. (We were actually late cause we stopped to get doughnuts :) )
The trip home was ten times better than the one over. The plane was about half empty so we got a whole row of seats to ourselves. Neither of us slept (I dozed for an hour) because we wanted to watch the million movies they had available. We ended up watching about 6. When we got home both of us were so exhausted and we couldn't catch up on sleep for about the next month. All worth it!!
